The Greenville City Council approved Ordinance 2023-05 on August 14, 2023. The ordinance was adopted pursuant to the general police powers granted Alabama municipalities, Ala.Code 11-45-1.
Golf Cart Inspection / Registration
Effective August 14, 2023, all golf carts in the City of Greenville require permits to operate on designated city streets. The Greenville Police Department will conduct golf cart inspections. The following are the requirements that need to be met prior to permit issuance.
Driver's License
Proof of insurance for the golf cart.
Head lights Mounted no higher than 36 inches and no lower than 12 inches
Seat Belts for driver and each passenger
Brake lights
Turn signals
Standard horn
Windshield
Rear-view mirror
Efficient brakes
Reliable steering apparatus

$50.00 Annual fee
If one of the requirements is not met, the cart will fail the inspection and no permit will be issued. Every golf cart owner must present a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, and have all of the required equipment upgrades. There will be no exceptions.
Please review the Golf Cart Registration and Inspection Form below. Officers will fill out the form. If all requirements are met, the golf cart will pass inspection. A fee of $50.00 will be collected by the City Clerk's Office (cash, check or credit card), and two permit decals will be issued to the golf cart owner. Permits will be valid for three years, but the $50 fee is due annually.
Please take into consideration that the operation of a golf cart on designated cart streets is a privilege. Greenville Police Department and the City of Greenville reserve the right to revoke or deny any golf cart registration which is deemed necessary. Stay safe and follow the traffic laws.
