Junior City Council Program – City of Greenville
The Junior City Council of Greenville is a leadership and civic engagement program designed for students in grades 9–12 who are interested in learning about local government, public service, and community leadership.
This program provides an opportunity for youth to actively participate in the civic process by working alongside city officials, attending council meetings, and engaging in meaningful discussions about issues affecting the community. Members of the Junior City Council gain firsthand experience in how municipal government operates while developing valuable skills in leadership, communication, teamwork, and problem-solving.
The Junior City Council serves as a platform to inspire the next generation of leaders by encouraging civic responsibility, community involvement, and a deeper understanding of how local government impacts everyday life.
The Junior City Council will consist of up to 15 student members who live in Greenville. The program will run from May-April, with monthly meetings and additional events as scheduled.
Monthly Meetings: Student members will convene once a month to discuss different projects within the city for the youth. Meetings will be moderated by city staff and follow a formal agenda.
Commitment: Participants must attend at least one City Council Meeting each month (8 total).
Community Project: The Junior City Council will organize and participate in one of the following with an overall objective of community betterment: community youth project
Members have been selected for the 2026-2027 term.
